Role: Consultant and Learning Designer
Deliverable: a 2.5 hour interactive and engaging training course for researchers at the Substance Use Research Team
All research proposals at Wayne State University must be reviewed by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). IRB review assures appropriate steps are taken to protect the rights and welfare of human participants and is required for almost all research at the university level.
Unfortunately, the IRB process is complex and documented poorly. Applicants regularly receive revisions at the application stage due to a lack of institutional support and clarity in the overall guidelines. These delays cost considerable time and resources, especially when grant funds are contingent on deliverables.
I am working with the Substance Use Research Team to design a learning intervention to increase success rates during the application process.
"Approved" is composed of three modules: Prepare, Assemble and Submit. Each module includes activities and games intended to reinforce the learning. The content and format were designed collaboratively with the Substance Use Research Team based on their unique needs and expertise. The entire training session is intended to be delivered in-person with a high level of interactivity.
