Deliverable: A comprehensive online Diversity & Inclusion course intended for the unique needs of Friendship Circle.
"Everyone belongs at Friendship Circle" is an online, interactive Diversity & Inclusion course. I worked with a team to perform needs assessment and development of the course working directly with our client.
Friendship Circle (FC) provides assistance to thousands of people with special needs by providing community and support in a welcoming and respectful environment. As a central part of their mission, FC hosts day and overnight camp programs throughout the summer that provide a safe, supportive space for a broad spectrum of campers. Day camp programs are facilitated by camp counselors and a wide range of volunteers (“learners”).
FC sought to provide Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) training to their camp staff and volunteers to facilitate a sense of belonging and to help prepare for the diverse needs of their campers. This was a completely new program with no previous documentation or internal infrastructure in place.
Friendship Circle required a flexible and accessible training program that could be administered on-demand to volunteers throughout the year. Learners must be prepared to support a diverse population of campers and respond appropriately and compassionately to unique situations. The training content needed to be comprehensive, while also remaining accessible from volunteers as young as 13 years old.
The training course was successfully completed by our team and verified by Friendship Circle in May 2021. "Everyone belongs at Friendship Circle" is still in use today.
