Role: Learning Designer
Deliverable: A 2-hour training program for teachers in higher education exploring alternative forms of assessment.
Online proctoring technology is used at WSU to prevent students from cheating during exams through the use of video surveillance technology. These systems monitor students via webcam during an exam and provide teachers with a video record of the student. Students and faculty have expressed concern that online proctoring violates student privacy, is not compatible with popular devices and is overly cumbersome to use.
This two-hour training program is designed to encourage faculty to adopt alternative methods of assessment that are less technologically complex, respectful of privacy and sufficiently secure enough to preserve academic integrity. Through this interactive training, faculty will gain an understanding of alternative assessment strategies in their course and have a chance to try them immediately.
1. Learner will examine and discuss current research regarding online proctoring effectiveness & privacy.
2. Learner will analyze the entire online proctoring process from the student’s perspective, including the technical requirements and privacy concerns.
3. Learner will demonstrate an understanding of alternative options for preserving academic integrity in exam-based assignments.
4. Learner will demonstrate an understanding of alternative assignments to use in place of exams while preserving academic integrity.
